Wired Or Wireless: What Backup Camera System is Right For You?
Recently Kelly, my wife, and I bought a 2016 Prius. She just changed jobs and needs a car for her new role in New Jersey. As we live in Brooklyn, a car makes things a lot easier. Now we just have to decide on a backup camera system.
We already choose a dash camera, the RVS-875-DL 2.4 Dual Lens Full HD Dash Camera with GPS. I love that you can charge this camera multiple ways, and it has two lens.
Dash Camera
- Full HD (front cam) and HD (rear cam) video recording
- Built-in GPS and 2.4" display to control camera settings
- Charge with a cigarette lighter adapter or USB cable
- 4 infra-red illuminators - Excellent night vision
We are still deciding what kind of backup camera system to install, a wired or wireless model. Here's a breakdown.
Wired Backup Camera Systems
In wired backup camera systems the camera/monitor is connected to a power harness. A cable is run the length of the vehicle connecting the components, and only one power source is needed. If we choose wired, we would probably install a variation of the RVS-776718 G-Series Backup Camera System. This system includes a mirror monitor with a 4.3" Display, distance grid lines, and a compact waterproof camera. Different systems in this series include great features, such as bluetooth, navigation, and backup sensors. The installation would be longer than with a wireless system, as cabling would need to be ran through the vehicle.
- Mirror Monitor with 4.3" Display
- Distance Grid Lines for Backing Up Reference
- Compact Camera - ideal for smaller vehicles
- 170° Ultra Wide Viewing Angle and Excellent Night Vision
- Completely Waterproof Camera - IP68
Wireless Backup Camera System
In wireless reverse camera systems, both the camera and monitor are attached to a power source, but the two components are attached to each other with a wireless transmitter. This cuts the installation time in half, as no cabling needs to run through the vehicle. The RVS-091406 Wireless Backup Camera System with Cigarette Lighter Adapter includes a 4.3" monitor and a compact camera with an ultra-wide 130° viewing angle and 9 infra-red lights.
- Digital Wireless Connection - Up to 70ft!
- 4.3" Monitor With Cigarette Lighter Adapter
- 130° Ultra Wide Viewing Angle
- 9 Infra-Red Lights- 30ft of Night Vision
- Completely Waterproof Camera - IP68
We are going to decide this week and get our system installed this weekend. Whatever we choose, I'll feel a lot better knowing that i'm keeping myself and my family safe.
