Summer Driving Guide
Summer is coming up, and that means barbeques, hot weather, and of course road trips! We want you to stay safe this summer, whether you are traveling along Route 66, Highway One, or simply taking your kids to soccer practice. Safecar.gov, a website powered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has a great interactive summer driving guide.
It’s very important to properly maintain your vehicle, especially if you plan on doing a lot of driving this summer. Solve any issues before they turn into dangerous problems. Schedule a safety inspection right now. I can wait. Ok, you scheduled an inspection? Wonderful. This is also a good time to check if your car seat or vehicle parts have been recalled. As many car seats can easily be improperly installed, Safe Kids Worldwide has provided a car seat checklist for parents.
As it’s essential to keep your car routinely maintained, it’s just as essential to maintain your personal health. Drowsy driving is a very real problem, and was the main factor in 2.6% of 2014 crash fatalities, though this may be underreported, because it is difficult to measure how much drowsiness is a factor in accidents. The best way to avoid drowsy driving is to get a proper amount of rest (7-8 hours per night) and to maintain a healthy diet. Be extra sure to get a good night’s sleep before a long road trip and always prepare your route in advance.
If you start to get sleepy while driving, pull over as soon as you can. Drinking coffee and taking a short nap will temporarily increase alertness, but you should know when you need to pull over and take a nap. To combat this problem, Rear View Safety offers two different driver fatigue monitoring systems, The RVS-335 Vuemate Driver Fatigue System and The RVS-350 Driver Fatigue Monitoring System.
One great way to save the magic of a family road trip is with a dash camera. Dash cameras easily mount inside the windshield and record everything seen out of the front of the vehicle. The added benefit of a dash camera is that the footage comes in handy in the event of an accident and can also be used to dispute traffic tickets. Rear View Safety offers a wide variety of dash cameras, with many different video quality, viewing angle, and design options.
Remember to have fun this summer! Safety always beings with you. Make the right decisions when you are behind the wheel.
