5 Year old Hit and Dragged 15 ft by Car in Florida
The news started flying Friday afternoon over social media: A 5-year-old Leesburg boy was hit by a big Mercury in a parking lot and dragged 15 feet before rolling out from under the car.
Jerred Byrd Jr., a kindergartner at Leesburg Elementary, was drawing calmly with chalk on the concrete of a parking lot at 1015 McNamee St. when the 3,917-pound car hit him and pulled him under the wheels, breaking both of his legs.
A girl in the group of kids playing in the parking lot told officers she tried to hold up her hands to slow the car, which kept going. Another tried to warn Jerred to move but wasn't fast enough. The children said the car was speeding.
The boy is on the road to recovery but is in for months of bedrest and therapy to learn how to walk again. Read the full story here.
