Technology to Curb Truck Related Fatalities
One of the most common instances of truck accident fatalities that happen all over the country involves a semi truck or other large tractor trailer slamming into the rear of a car on the highway. Thirteen people have already died on I-16 from exactly this type of situation in 2015 alone. Perhaps the most famous example is the accident that comedian Tracy Morgan was involved in that claimed the life of at least one person in New Jersey. Now, the industry is turning towards the latest in technological solutions to not only prevent these types of situations from happening, but to make the roads dramatically safer for all types of drivers and pedestrians at the same time.
A bold new type of technology uses an advanced radar system to detect in advance when traffic is slowing down or has stopped altogether in front of a truck. If the driver doesn't react in the appropriate amount of time, the system itself will actually take over the vehicle and brake for them. The United States Department of Transportation has already come under fire for not taking these types of necessary measures soon enough, but it looks like the tide may be turning in favor of drivers and pedestrians sooner rather than later.
Many road safety advocates and other organizations are pushing to make these types of necessary technological solutions mandatory across the truck driving industry in the United States as soon as 2016. Whether or not that will actually happen remains to be seen at this point.
In its position as an industry leading road and consumer safety organization, Rear View Safety is incredibly proud to be able to offer a wide range of different backup camera for trucks and similar options that are designed specifically to prevent these types of tragedies from happening in the first place. Rear View Safety offers not only the latest in state-of-the-art technological solutions, but also options that are designed for the specific type of truck that you may be driving.
The difficulties that a tow truck might face on the road are similar-yet-different from the obstacles that a driver would face in a garbage truck, a box truck or even a dump truck, for example, which is why Rear View Safety tailors its equipment towards the unique problem that each individual is trying to solve.
Thanks to these and other options, road safety for trucks is quickly becoming a problem that pedestrians and vehicle operators alike no longer have to worry about - which is perhaps the biggest benefit of all. Truck drivers can be as productive as they need to be and pedestrians can rest easy knowing that vehicle operators everywhere are always looking out for their best interests.
