Drowsy Driving Prevention Week

I’ve written about my own personal experience with the dangers of drowsy driving before. It is a dangerous epidemic that cannot be ignored. According to a National Sleep Foundation Sleep in America poll, 60% of adult drivers, roughly 168 million people, say they have driven a vehicle while feeling drowsy in the past year, and more than one-third, 103 million people), have actually fallen asleep while driving.

While it’s difficult to measure the scope of the problem, NHTSA reports that between 2005 and 2009 there were an average of 83,000 crashes each year related to drowsy driving.

Rear View Safety offers two different driver fatigue systems to alter driver’s when they begin to show the first symptoms of drowsiness so they can stop the problem before it becomes dangerous.

In an effort to raise awareness about this important issue, The National Sleep Foundation has declared November 6 – 13th to be Drowsy Driving Prevention week. The annual campaign provides public education about the risks of driving while tired and countermeasures to improve overall safety on the road.
