4 Tips For The Deadliest Driving Day Of The Year
This July 4th feels different. Americans will be hitting the highways in droves, and who can blame them? After the pandemic, the shutdowns, and a year of limited travel, this year, Independence Day will feel just a bit more...free.
Likewise, the most dangerous weekend of the year will probably be even deadlier in 2021, as we celebrate our re-found freedom. A reopening nation, drinking, more vehicles on the roads, and distractions in the form of fireworks and cell phones make the conditions even more hazardous than usual.
While we do recommend the usual safety tips (don’t drink and drive, wear seatbelts, put the phone down, avoid heavy traffic), we figured we’d also throw in the best gadgets to get if you can’t avoid the worst driving conditions.
You can’t control what other drivers do, but you can ensure whoever is at the wheel in your vehicle is awake and alert enough to make the right decisions. A driver fatigue system is perfect for a tired drive home after a long day or night.
This specific system has an algorithm intelligent enough to distinguish between regular driving behavior and states of drowsiness, which will set off an alarm when it starts picking up on eyelids closing. Designated drivers sold separately.
A perfect companion for the Fatigue System above, this little accessory is for the heavier sleepers of the group who won’t respond to the alarm that comes with the RVS-335 and need someone (or something, in this case) to provide a little nudge.
There’s no weekend with traffic like July 4th weekend, and that goes for the whole of the U.S. More vehicles on the road mean a higher chance for accidents which mean higher chances of being stuck in traffic, which mean higher chances for accidents-- well, you get it.
A good backup camera system would save you some headaches from this vicious cycle, July 4th weekend or not.
Features like an LED color monitor, night vision up to 50 ft, a waterproof IP69K rating, 20G vibration rating, 100G shock rating, built-in mic and speaker and a 130° viewing angle will overcome most safety concerns in one neat package.
Headrest Hook With Magnetic Phone & Tablet Mount
It’s a budget-friendly yet essential little accessory. This underrated headrest hook takes the stress out of long drives with little ones and channels it into an instantly-installing, bag-holding, rotating hook that works with any headrest and decreases parental stress by 300% (don’t quote us on that).
You’ll probably need this for when traffic is moving so slow that you’re willing to put the car in park or even turn it off.
Of course, the best and safest option is not to drive at all, but many of us won’t have a choice.
Here’s to a happy and SAFE July 4th!
